Gild by Raven Kennedy: Tour

Welcome to my stop on the creative content tour for GILD by Raven Kennedy. This tour is hosted by Literary Bound Tours!

Raven Kennedy is a California girl born and raised, whose love for books pushed her into creating her own worlds. Her debut series was a romcom fantasy about a cupid looking for love. She has since gone on to write in a range of genres, including the adult dark fantasy: The Plated Prisoner Series, which has become an Amazon bestseller.

Whether she makes you laugh or cry, or whether the series is about a cupid

or a gold-touched woman living in King Midas’s castle, she hopes to create characters that readers can root for.

Synopsis:

The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.

Gold. Gold floors, gold walls, gold furniture, gold clothes. In Highbell, in

the castle built into the frozen mountains, everything is made of gold.

Even me.

King Midas rescued me. Dug me out of the slums and placed me on a

pedestal. I’m called his precious. His favored. I’m the woman he Gold-

Touched to show everyone that I belong to him. To show how powerful

he is. He gave me protection, and I gave him my heart. And even though

I don’t leave the confines of the palace, I’m safe.

Until war comes to the kingdom and a deal is struck.

Suddenly, my trust is broken. My love is challenged. And I realize that

everything I thought I knew about Midas might be wrong. Because these

bars I’m kept in, no matter how gilded, are still just a cage. But the

monsters on the other side might make me wish I’d never left.

The myth of King Midas reimagined. This compelling adult fantasy series

is as addictive as it is unexpected. With romance, intrigue, and danger,

the gilded world of Orea will grip you from the very first page.

Reasons to read: a unique world with stunning characters

Personal rating: gorgeous cover paired with a story unlike anything you've ever read

I live my life without expectations, so when I started reading GILD, I wasn't expecting this poor book to get glued to my hands. This is one of those diamond-in-the-roughs that you hope to find once every few years.

"I am the gold-plated prisoner. And what a pretty prison it is."

Auren is King Midas's golden prisoner. Having been taken off the streets, she's become something of a possession to the king, not unlike the things he turns to gold with his very touch. Auren's POV gave me some jumbled feelings. On one side, she's grateful for living in luxury with the man she loves, but on the other, she thinks about what it's like on the outside and if she'll ever be anything more than Midas' plaything. I loved her character in the sense that she's naive but she's still got a head on her shoulders. She's caring and funny, and completely unlike the "gilded whore" the other "saddles" (Midas's concubines) make her out to be.

Let me stop here and say that, yes, there are some graphic scenes and you've been warned many times both here on GR and at the beginning of the book, so if you're not OK with rape scenes, by all means, pass on this one. The beginning of this book starts off with a bang (giggity), so you have been warned.

Anyway, the book goes in some twisty directions that tickled me to the point where I started cheering. I've read A LOT of books this year and they all (most of them) follow a certain formula, but I adore indie books because they whatever the heck they want. And it's delightful.

"...I work to give him pleasure, to give him what he needs. To make him happy."

Our girl Auren has been programmed to think she's only good for pleasuring and to be looked at. Adored. I haven't read the synopsis for book two or three, but I am hoping to the gods that she finds the identity and strength I know she has. I sincerely hope Midas is not her love for long, but I did get some ACOTAR vibes so I'm hoping the person who shows up (I won't tell you when!) is the one for her. Midas is trash and I hope he gets his in the end.

I know some people will think of Auren's character as childish and foolish, but she's been brainwashed into seeing Midas as her savior. The Stockholm Syndrome is REAL. I feel like the author wrote her as she should be and that in the next installment her wings will soar.

Everything in this book worked for me. I cannot wait to get the next two books.
