A spellbinding story of three princesses and the destiny they were born for: seduction,
conquest, and the crown. Immerse yourself in the first book in a new fantasy trilogy
from the author of the New York Times bestselling Ash Princess series.
Empress Margaraux has had plans for her daughters since the day they were born.
Princesses Sophronia, Daphne, and Beatriz will be queens. And now, age sixteen, they
each must leave their homeland and marry their princes.

Beautiful, smart, and demure, the triplets appear to be the perfect brides—because
Margaraux knows there is one common truth: everyone underestimates a girl. Which is
a grave mistake. Sophronia, Daphne, and Beatriz are no innocents. They have been
trained since birth in the arts of deception, seduction, and violence with a singular
goal—to bring down monarchies— and their marriages are merely the first stage of
their mother’s grand vision: to one day reign over the entire continent of Vesteria.
The princesses have spent their lives preparing, and now they are ready, each with her
own secret skill, and each with a single wish, pulled from the stars. Only, the stars have
their own plans—and their mother hasn’t told them all of hers.

Life abroad is a test. Will their loyalties stay true? Or will they learn that they can’t trust
anyone—not even each other?

Reasons to read: Gosh, there are so many I could make a list a mile long

Personal rating: a million stars to the book I never knew I needed

Beatriz, Sophronia, and Daphne are three princesses groomed by their mother to sabotage the neighboring three kingdoms and drive them to war. They are promised to three princes, but upon their arrival, find all their training hasn't prepared them for the situations they encounter. I'll break it down.

"In a year's time, we will rule every inch of this continent and no none will be able to take it from us."

Beatriz is set to marry the Cellarian prince, Pasquale, who is meek but nice enough, but much to her dismay, the king is a bit sleazy and the kingdom doesn't think much of their skittish prince. She has her work cut out for her, especially when she finds certain romantic inclinations pointed the other direction.

Sophronia sets off for Temarin where she's marrying the young king, Leopold, who is an ignorant cinnamon roll who has work to do on himself but is moldable and faithful and everything I..ehmm, she wants in a king. The moment I knew I would love him was when he respected Sohpronia's wishes to wait to consummate their marriage. UGH. Keep Leopold safe at ALL COSTS.

Daphne gets the shock of her life when she arrives in the northern kingdom of Friz to find her prince has died and now she's promised to the king's bastard son, Bairre, who never wanted to become king. He's moody and aloof and I loved him instantly.

There is a ton of political intrigue in this book with enough twists to make your head spin. The overall theme of becoming your own person is very clear as each woman forms relationships and finally realizes who they are outside of their mother's influence. They are very much clever royals, but they were also sheltered and given one-track minds, and to see them come into their own was simply amazing.

I cannot get over that ending. I just can't. That one scene will live in my mind rent-free forever.

This is a strong beginning to what I expect to be mind-blowing series.
